Skills Tests

In order to train as a teacher, you will need to take the numeracy and literacy skills tests as part of the application process, and ensure you have passed them both before the start of the course. You must submit an application for a teacher training course before you can take the skills tests. In most cases, if an offer is made for training, then one of the conditions will be to succesfully pass the skills tests. More informaion can be found on the Department of Education's website here.

Interview Process

The interview process will involve a number of elements, each assessing different skills and giving you the opportunity to talk to students. As part of the interview you will:
  • Teach 20 minutes (minimum) of a lesson in the subject you have applied to train in. We will give you the topic to teach.
  • Complete two written tasks: one related to education in general and the other more specific to your subject specialism.
  • Have a tour of the school with some of our students.
  • Have a formal interview with a subject specialist.
