House System
CFS has launched a House system, which is now in the second year The aim is for it to become an integral part of our school community. It is student lead; and our ambition is that the House Captains and their leadership teams will work together to create a strong pupil voice to motivate students and further the community spirit of the school.
There are 5 houses, names of which were chosen by the students. Each house also has a colour associated with it.
Apollo (Yellow)
Artemis (White)
Athena (Purple)
Gaia (Green)
Zeus (Blue)
Students will be allocated a House when they enter the school in year 7. All siblings belong to the same House.
Why Have a House System at CFS
Collaboration:
One of the main strengths of the House system is allowing students of all ages to work together, creating a truly cohesive environment, and ensuring that age is not a barrier to friendship and collaboration. This reflects the life that we are preparing our students for life outside of CFS nowhere beyond the confines of a classroom will our students be required to work/interact with those only of their own age.
Competition:
Healthy Competition is good, it drives our students to improve and it teaches them how to fail. A sense of achievement both inside and outside of the classroom, through the fun and excitement of competition
Leadership
The House system allows for the promotion of student responsibility, “giving all students the chance to learn and develop leadership skills is an outstanding benefit”
Identity
A sense of belonging and awareness of individual and collective responsibility. Camaraderie and identity are formed – to support the transition into a student’s next stage of learning.
Student Leadership
Students from all year groups are invited to apply for the position of House Captain (year 13) House Deputy Captain (year 12) and House Leader (year 7 -11) at the start of each academic year. The quality of the applications that are received each year has been outstanding.
Students form part of the leadership teams and work together to run charity events and to lead on a House week of which there are 5 throughout the academic year. Communication lines have been set up between each house leadership group and emails created so every member of each house has a way of contacting their respective leadership groups. This is to give every member of every house the ability to interact and contribute to their house as we move forward. House leadership members attend regular meetings to discuss plans as they evolve throughout the year.
House Themes and Colours
Our Houses have been allocated a colour (green, white, yellow, purple and blue) and the result of the votes for naming the Houses confirmed that the students' mythology theme has been chosen to name the Houses as follows:
We are currently working on a motto for each House as well as designing a shield for each House.

How students earn House Points
Each House at Chingford Foundation School is in competition with each other to achieve the highest number of House points at the end of each term and most importantly by the end of the year when there will be prizes. Regular House point totals will be advertised on the House notice boards.
Pupils can contribute to their House point totals in a number of ways both in and out of the classroom. All pupils are expected to participate in at least one of the many House events/activities.
Positive referrals – pupils are awarded positive referrals for outstanding effort and achievement in and out of the classroom. For every 10 positive referrals, students will earn one house point for their house. The points will be added to the house total at the end of each half-term.
House activities – curriculum areas will provide House competitions/challenges organised throughout the year for all year groups to enter. These activities are outlined on the school website calendar and will be advertised with further details on how to get involved on Edulink over the year. There will also be vouchers that students can win with each House competition/ challenge.
Clubs – pupils can also earn House points for their involvement with clubs inside or outside school. These can be achieved by pupils showing commitment through high attendance, outstanding effort, and achievement. The teacher will then add their House point to their running total, which will automatically count towards their house's overall running total and be added at the end of each half-term.
Achievement – pupils can also earn House points for varying achievements such as Jack Petchey, Taking part in charity events outside the school, or making an outstanding contribution to the school or the school community.
Extra-curricular competitions – pupils can also earn House points if they regularly enter competitions advertised in school for representing their school, showing commitment and an active sense of involvement with extra-curricular opportunities.
Attendance – students who achieve 100% attendance in a half term will also receive House points that will be added to the running total.
