Online Safety

At Chingford Foundation School, online safety is a key part of our safeguarding and curriculum provision. Students learn how to stay safe online through our PSHE curriculum, form sessions, and assemblies across the academic year.
The Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2025 guidance places greater importance than ever on digital safeguarding including awareness of emerging technologies such as generative AI, social media use, gaming, and online communication. Our approach ensures that students understand both the positive opportunities and the potential risks that exist in the digital world.
We recognise that the internet offers incredible opportunities to learn, connect, and create but it can also expose children to harmful, misleading, or age-inappropriate content. Working closely with parents and carers is vital to ensure that children develop the confidence and judgment needed to use technology responsibly.
How Parents and Carers Can Support at Home
In this section, you’ll find practical guidance, links, and resources to help reinforce the messages taught in school. By staying informed and having regular conversations with your child, you can make a real difference in helping them navigate the digital world safely.
Parents and carers can help their children to:
-
Evaluate what they see online, thinking critically about information and media.
-
Recognise techniques used for persuasion, such as targeted adverts, influencers, or misinformation.
-
Understand acceptable and unacceptable online behaviour, including respect and digital etiquette.
-
Identify online risks, such as scams, cyberbullying, grooming, or oversharing.
-
Know how and when to seek support, including how to report concerns to the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP)
Working Together
Our partnership with parents and carers is central to keeping children safe online. We encourage families to explore the trusted national resources shared in this section including ThinkUKnow, NSPCC Online Safety, and the UK Safer Internet Centre to stay informed about new trends and advice.
Together, we can help our young people to use technology confidently, responsibly, and safely.
