Our Year 13 Biology students visited The Royal Institution in central London to take part in an electrophoresis practical session. The trip was a tremendous success and students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to engage with advanced laboratory techniques that are essential for A level Biology.
The session was delivered by Jin-Gyu Chang , UYSC and Families Presenter Producer at The Royal Institution. Students benefitted from their expertise and gained clear, practical understanding of how electrophoresis works in real laboratory settings.
During the session, students used specialist equipment including micropipettes, microcentrifuges and restriction enzyme digests, before running DNA using gel electrophoresis. This practical skill regularly appears on A level examinations and is often too costly for schools to provide in house.
The venue itself, the walk through central London and the careers talk were further highlights that helped enrich the day.
Our students behaved impeccably throughout the entire visit and represented Chingford Foundation School with pride. Their enthusiasm, maturity and commitment to their studies were outstanding.
