Transition to Arbor MIS - FAQ
As we move from SIMS to our new Management Information System (MIS), Arbor, we understand that parents and carers may have questions. Below you'll find answers to the most commonly asked queries to help guide you through this transition. If you need additional support, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Why did the school decide to switch from SIMS to Arbor?
After a thorough review, we found that SIMS was no longer meeting our needs. We decided to transition to Arbor to streamline the apps and resources parents need to sign up for and regularly log into, making it easier to manage multiple platforms.
Why was the transition to Arbor implemented in April?
Our contract with SIMS runs on the financial year from April to April, not the academic year. Implementing Arbor in April was necessary to avoid committing to another three-year contract with SIMS.
How will this transition affect my child's access to revision materials and timetables?
We are providing exam students with the required revision materials and timetables. Timetables are also available for the rest of the school. If you need any specific information, please contact your child's Student Support Officer or Year Leader.
Will we lose access to information previously sent through Edulink?
Similar to a factory reset on a mobile phone or computer, we will not be able to retrieve information previously sent to parents or students. However, our systems do have all this information, so if there is anything you require, please let us know.
How can I get assistance with setting up a new Edulink account or Arbor?
We previously sent out information on how to set up your new Edulink account. Please use the email contact@chingfordfs.org.uk if you need further support with this. The Arbor app has not yet been sent to parents, but support will be provided when this is set up.What measures are being taken to ensure a smooth transition for students, especially Year 11?
We have made every effort to minimise the impact on students, especially those in critical exam periods. We are providing all necessary revision materials and timetables to ensure they have consistent access to essential information.
How will the new system, Arbor, benefit the school and parents?
Arbor will streamline the apps and resources parents need to manage, reducing the complexity of using multiple platforms. It will also improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our communication and information management.
When will Arbor be launched with parents?
We have not yet launched Arbor with parents, but we will ensure a smooth transition when we do so. We will slowly start to adopt features of Arbor during this summer term but will not fully utilise this until September.
Will there be any training or resources provided to help parents navigate Arbor?
Yes, we will provide resources and guidance to help parents navigate Arbor. Please stay tuned for more information on training sessions and support materials.
How can I stay updated on any further changes or updates regarding the transition?
We will keep you informed through regular communications via email and our school website. Please ensure your contact information is up to date to receive the latest updates.
