Transition
We know that your child's transition from primary school into secondary school is an exciting but daunting time, so our transition strategy has been very carefully planned to ensure that your child's experience is nothing but positive. We have developed a bespoke programme of events to make the transition period as smooth and enjoyable as possible, enabling children to meet their new peers and teachers and familiarise themselves in their new environment, long before their first day.
Our transition programme begins the moment your child is offered their place at Chingford Foundation School.
Our entire staff and student community is dedicated to supporting the new cohort of students as they embark on their new chapter at Chingford Foundation School. We take pride in our nurturing culture that encourages every learner to fulfil their potential, enjoy a happy and successful school experience and discover their talents and aspirations.
Year 6 Induction Evening - Thursday 13th June 2024
You and your child are warmly invited to an Induction Evening at Chingford Foundation School in the Main School Hall. The purpose of this event is to give us an opportunity to explain, in more detail, the plans for your child’s education at Chingford Foundation School and for you to receive further details about the arrangements for the Induction Day on 3rd July. The presentation will be led by Miss Machnicki and Mr Haines Head of School and other key staff will also be in attendance. Parents/Carers will have received an allocated time to attend.
Year 6 Induction Day - Wednesday 3rd July 2024
Your child is invited to an Induction Day at Chingford Foundation School 8:30am-2:40pm. During this exciting day, pupils will be involved in a variety of different lessons and team building activities which will give them a feel for secondary school life. They will also have a chance to meet some new friends and some of the staff. Part of the Induction Day will provide them with the opportunity to find their way around the School.
Summer Transition School - 25th & 26th July 2024 (Group 1), 29th & 30th July 2024 (Group 2)
We are delighted to be able to hold a Summer School as part of our transition process to assist primary school pupils to integrate as smoothly as possible before starting secondary school in September. This opportunity is open to all pupils coming to Chingford Foundation School this September. We will be running a two day Summer School on Thursday 25th July and Friday 26th July or Monday 29th July and Tuesday 30th July. We will be sharing invitations and more information on this shortly.
First Day of Term - Tuesday 3rd September 2024
The first day of the Autumn Term for Year 7 is Tuesday 3rd September 2024. All Year 7 students should arrive at 8:30am and will leave at 3:00pm. It is important to share with you that we take attendance very seriously. The school does not allow term time holidays and failure to attend on Tuesday 3rd September 2024 could jeopardise your child’s place as they join our school roll at that time.

We work closely alongside our feeder primary schools to ensure that our incoming students enjoy a transition that is as smooth as possible. From liaising with parents and primary school teachers, to induction days and information evenings, we provide families with pastoral support and guidance, to facilitate the settling in period. As Head of Year 7, I thoroughly enjoy the role as Transition Lead as it allows me to build a rapport with students and their families, allowing me to provide the best pastoral support possible.
Our transition booklet plays a key role during the transition period, providing a reflective and thoughtful view for students and staff alike throughout the process. Alongside induction days, students are offered the opportunity to experience life at Chingford Foundation School, meet their tutors and acclimatise to their new surroundings, long before their first day.
I would highly recommend Chingford Foundation School; they offer an exceptional education for all students and encourage their personal growth and motivation. All students are provided with the best possible experience and leave the school as very driven individuals who strive to succeed.
