YOUNG writers are taking part in a major poetry project. Students from Chingford Foundation School, in Nevin Drive, and Rushcroft Foundation School, in Rushcroft Road, both in Chingford, have been selected as Barbican Junior Poets.
The 12 teenagers are to work with Young Poet Laureate for London, Aisling Fahey, before getting the opportunity to read in front of hundreds of people at the Barbican in London. Yolanda Guns, arts co-ordinator from Chingford Foundation School, praised the pupils. She said: “We are very excited about this project. “Our students will take part in a writing programme offered through the Barbican centre, the largest arts venue in Europe. “They will also have an anthology of their work published by the venue.” Both schools are to have 20 extra-curricular writing sessions before visiting the venue.
