 Arts Awards Introduction Letter

Arts Award is a national qualification in the creative, visual and performing arts. It is  accredited by Trinity College London who deliver it in partnership with Arts Council England. It is suitable for young people between the ages of 11-25 and has 3 levels: Bronze, which is a  Level 1 qualification; Silver, which is a Level 2 qualification and Gold, which is a Level 3 qualification and also recognised by UCAS with the award of 35 UCAS points for young people wishing to progress onto Higher Education.

Chingford Foundation School has been a highly successful Arts Award Centre for the past 5 years, and over 200 students have achieved Bronze, Silver or Gold Arts Awards. We are very proud of the fact that we were the first school in London to have students achieve their Gold Arts Award.

At Chingford Foundation School, all students who have an interest in the arts are welcome to join our Arts Award programme. It is delivered as part of our Extended School Learning Programme and all sessions therefore take place after school or on Saturday mornings. We are fully inclusive, and there is no minimum standard required of students to participate. The emphasis is on the young person’s individual journey to develop art form knowledge and understanding and to encourage them to broaden their horizons by engaging with art forms which may be new to them. The programme also encourages the development of youth arts leadership. We firmly believe in the strength of parental involvement with our scheme and offer activities which are suitable for family learning.  We have been delighted to have the strength of our Arts Award programme recognised nationally by a number of different Case Studies written about us, articles in magazines and on websites and opportunities to take students to represent Arts Award at national forums.

We are an Arts Award Supporter Centre which means we can deliver Arts Award to young people regardless of the school they attend. We have very strong links within our local and wider community and our students have opportunities to perform, present and exhibit work at a number of different venues.

Our highly successful Arts Award Theatre Company meets on Saturday mornings as part of CFS Saturday College and produces two musicals a year. Since we formed in January 2010, we have performed Billy Elliot, Scrooge the Musical, The Wizard of Oz, Peter Pan, Mary Poppins, Cinderella and are now working on a production of My Fair Lady to be performed in July 2013.

Our Arts Award Dance Company meets on Monday evenings and we are launching our Arts Award Community Choir in May 2013. We hold monthly Arts Award Evenings at school, usually on a Tuesday , where students and parents attend so that young people can display, perform or present work which forms part of their portfolios. In addition, we hold a monthly Arts Award Community Cream Tea for members of our local area.
